Hello, my name is Julie Tibaud. I am the owner of Emilia's Direct Care Agency. I have envisioned helping my community for as long as I can remember. In 2010, I started college; I recall speaking to an academic advisor stating that “one day I want to operate a homemaker and companion service company".
In 2009, I moved in with my grandmother. I was her homemaker and companion provider. I would cook, clean, take her on errands, and organize her medications etc. In 2012, I moved to a different city to further my education. After I moved from my grandmother’s home she experienced fall incidents, she would forget to take her medications, leave food cooking on the stove. Therefore, my mother decided to have my grandmother stay with her. That didn't last too long. My mother was overwhelmed and was not able to care for my grandmother. My mother did not have access to a homemaker and companion company in the time of need. My mother eventually sent my grandmother to the island where she later passed.
The passing of my loving grandmother woke something on the inside of me. The memory of sitting with the academic advisor and discussing how I want to help the community by starting a homemaker and companion company came back to mind. Helping! was a character that my grandmother carried. She loved taking care of people and it didn't matter who they were. My grandmother’s name was Emilia. In memory of my grandmother, Emilia's Direct Care Agency was founded.
